  HORIZONS

Media Center Access

The Media Center is open from 8:40 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. M, T, Th, F, when school is in session.  With early dismissal on Wednesday, the center closes at 3:00 p.m. On occasion, the center will be closed due to meetings or other school activities.

Students who come before school (8:50am) or during lunch must have a media pass. Those students will remain in the center until the bell rings.

Sign-in records are kept to account for individual student (non-class)  access. Students  sign-in at the circulation desk when they arrive.

Student ID's will be checked and also serve as student media checkout cards.

Computer Labs

The Media Center labs are intended for class use and large group instruction. Individuals may access this lab with a pass when classes are not scheduled in the space.

Backpacks and  book bags must be stored in designated locations, not at the computer stations.

When students and parents "sign off" on the SCPS Discipline Code, this includes the computer use agreement (AUP). If parents wish an alternative access for their student(s), the Technology Consent Form must be completed. There is  ►more information about using computers and technology at Teague.

Checkout

The circulation system will permit book checkout for three-week intervals. Renewals will be permitted one time.

Some reference materials may be checked out for overnight use only; ask at the desk.

Teachers will disperse overdue notices; parents will be called concerning overdue and lost items. Lost items must be paid for.

Staff

Our Media Center is fortunate have a full time literacy specialist, an educational technology facilitator, and a media assistant. Student assistants work during each period throughout the day, helping with circulation, shelving books, and running errands. Dividends volunteer time to help us complete special tasks, such as inventory and computer lab support. If you would like to Dividend with us, please call the school at 407-320-1550.

A Parent's Guide to Lexiles  is a pamphlet which explains how matching readers to text can improve reading comprehension.  Lexiles have been established for middle schools texts: Middle School Lexiles.
