1. Thursday May 18 – Hat day. Donate $1.00 to PBS and be able to wear your favorite, appropriate hat. Make your donation to Ms. Argrett, in the cafeteria, first ting in the morning.

Good Morning Families,
Students were told yesterday, Wednesday,  to leave backpacks at home for this last day (Thursday). They will need a writing instrument and notebook/folder with paper. Morning classes will be periods 4 and 6 with exams and instruction occurring. Afternoon activities will occur during afternoon classes periods 1 and 3. Grade 6 and 7 will go the student faculty basketball game during period 1 and grade 8 will go during period 3. Please remember that period 1 and 3 will occur after lunch. When not at the basketball game, student will be in class interacting with instruction. Please remember that students will not be called from the basketball games to be signed out. Due to the excitement in the gym, the sound level makes it difficult to announce for students.

We wish you and your families a safe Spring Break and we will see you back on Monday March 27.

Please note, on Thursday,3/16/17, an Activity Period is scheduled from 12:55 PM - 3:55 PM.  All exams will have been completed prior to this time.  If your child missed an exam due to illness, appointment, etc.,  he/she will have an opportunity to make up any needed 3rd Quarter Exams in lieu of participating in the Activity Period.
 
Please note: On Thursday, March 16, 2017, students will not be permitted to sign out during the grade level activity period. Please make arrangements for sign outs to occur before or after the activity.
 
Any questions or concerns regarding the 3rd Quarter Exams Window or the Make-up opportunities should be addressed to the Testing Coordinator, Robyn Steiner at 407-320-1465.

2/22/17

  1. The Suessification of Romeo and Juliet is this year's school play.  Students have been working hard to bring these hilarious characters to life.  It's a play that promises fun for the entire family.  The performances will take place Thursday, February 23, at 5:00 pm and Friday, February 24, at 7:00 pm.  Tickets will be available at the door for students ($3.00) and adults ($5.00).  The play runs about one hour.  Students who attend are to be picked up at 6:00 pm on Thursday Feb. 23 and at 8:00 pm on Friday Feb. 24. We look forward to you joining us for our first theater production of the year!

  1. YMCA students will attend the Drama performance on Thursday Feb. 23 from 5:00-5:45pm on Thursday Feb. 23. There will not be check outs during that time. Parents will need to pick up students before 5pm or after 5:45pm. 
 
  1. FSA Writing assessment will occur on Tuesday February 28. 6th and 7th grade will have a paper based assessment and 8th grade will have a computer based assessment.
 
  1. The SCPS District Middle School track meet will occur at Hagarty High School on Saturday, February 25 from 8 am – approximately 2:00 pm. Please join us in cheering the Tigers to Victory.

1. Teague is hosting a Valentine’s Dance, for grades 6-8,on Thursday Feb. 16, 2017 from 4-6 pm. Tickets are on sale during all lunches for $3.00. Ticket WILL NOT be sold at the door.
2. School will be closed on Monday 2-20-2017 in honor of President’s Day.
3. FSA Writing Assessment will occur on Tuesday February 28. Grade 6 and 7 will complete a paper based assessment and grade 8 will complete a computer based assessment. Please see the Parent letter attached:  FSA Writing Parent Letter.pdf   Please be reminded that FSA assessments DO NOT impact the students’ eligibility for promotion to the next grade  level in middle school. To be promoted to the next grade level, in middle school, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. The data received from the FSA  provides valuable information as to the students’ strengths and areas of needed support.
Thus, allowing for opportunities of enrichment and /or support.

Dear Teague Parent,
 
Beginning January 24th, teachers, parents, and students across the district will have an opportunity to participate in the 5Essentials Survey. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
The 5Essentials Survey will be conducted January 24 – February 24, 2017. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/florida/survey/parent/.
 
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
 
  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction
 
Prior research has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.
 
All teachers and 4th through 12th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent.
 
In order for Teague Middle School to receive a Parent Survey Report, at least 20 percent of the parents at our school must complete this survey.  If you have students at multiple Seminole County Public Schools, parents are encouraged to complete a survey for each of their students who are enrolled in a Seminole County Public School. These reports will be sent to schools and districts the week of April 24th, 2017.
 
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and help to guide school improvement. Your identity and survey responses are kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

Teague M.S. Registration Update 

  1. Scheduling for 2017-18 classes has taken on a new look this year. I believe it is important for parents and students to have information about the course offerings provided at each grade level. Hence, the detailed registration card sent home with each child on Wednesday. In our first quest to accomplish this task, we have encountered a few bumps in the road. I thank you for your patience as we work to correct any errors or omissions. I thank you for your input as we continue on this journey. Please see valuable information below:
    1. Course Code Numbers are not needed on the forms.  These will be added when the students enter the classes into the computer.
    2. On the registration card please identify the level of Core course requested. (Examples – Standard, ESOL, Advanced, Gifted, etc)
    3. The only full year electives are: Band, Chorus and Spanish I. 
    4. The only required courses are P.E. (all grades), I-Journeys (grade 7) and I-Connect (grade8)
    5. A Curriculum Guide will be placed on the Teague Website this afternoon. It will provide additional information about Teague, enrollment, flow charts and classes.
    6. Students will turn in completed cards to the science teacher. This will assure that the cards are in safe keeping, until the day they are to be entered into Skyward.
    7. The following courses receive high school credit and will be reflected on the students high school transcript:
      1. Algebra I Standard and Honors
      2. Geometry I Honors
      3. Spanish I
      4. I-Connect

1. Students should have provided parents and guardians with a copy of the semester 1 report card. It was distributed to students on Monday.
2. Current Grade 6 and 7 students received 2017-18 course registration materials today. Please take time to review the information and help your child select the classes that are best for their skills and interests. Grade 8 students will be receiving their materials from their zoned high school in early February. 
3. All completed cards are to be returned the the student’s science teacher by Tuesday January 17.
4. Students will be inputting the course requests on the computer on Wednesday Jan. 18 and Thursday Jan. 19 during Science Class.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back! I look forward to the return of the staff and students and hope that Winter Break allowed each of you time to rest, refuel and reflect. I am confident that Semester 2 will afford each student opportunities for success. As we move into the new semester, please take note of the following information:
  1. Tomorrow – Monday - Students are to report to their Semester 1, first period class and receive their new Semester 2 Schedules. Should a student be absent tomorrow – Monday January 9 – he/she may pick up the new schedule in the guidance office upon return.
  2. Students may notice changes in their schedules, due to class balancing, needed interventions, program changes, completion of a semester 1 class leading to a new semester 2 class, change in staff, etc.. Students are to follow the schedule as posted.
  3. Semester 1 Report Cards will be distributed during period 1 on Monday January 9. Please ask your child for the copy when he/she arrives home.
  4. Students who did not complete the Quarter 1 Exams will be permitted to make-up the exam. Upon completion of the make-up, the final report grade will be adjusted accordingly.
  5. Students will bring home 2017-18 Course Registration information and materials on Wednesday January 11. Please take time to discuss this information with your child, helping him/her to select the best courses for 2017-18.  
  6. The Water Bottle Flip had become a distraction on our campus Semester 1. In order to prevent this continued distraction, all bottles are to remain in the backpack. Students may drink from their bottles during lunch. Students may use water fountains if they are in need of a drink during class changes.
  7. Please be reminded that students are not to enter campus prior to 8:50 am.
  8. Prior to the conclusion of Semester 1, we received numerous concerns regarding student activity on the walkway connecting our campus to Bonnie Dr. This included, wall climbing, trash throwing, confrontations and students exiting campus when arriving on campus prior to 8:50 am.  Beginning Wednesday January 11, the gate to this walkway will be opened at 8:50 a.m.. It will be re-locked at 9:10 a.m. and remain locked until dismissal at 3:55 p.m., Wednesdays at 2:55 p.m.. Lastly it will be re-locked at 4:25 p.m., Wednesdays at 3:25 p.m.. I apologize for the inconvenience this decrease in access might cause, however, we want to assure the safety of our students and community.
  9. SAC will be meeting on Tuesday January 10, 7:30 am.
  10. SAVE THE DATE!! Literacy week is January 23 – January 27, 2017. Parents and families are invited to attend Literacy Night on Thursday January 26. Numerous informational and instructional breakout sessions will be available, as will the Scholastic Book Fair. (Further details are forthcoming)

Teague End of Semester Update
1. Students will be dismissed at 1:50 each day this week. After school activities are not occurring this week.
2. Students are not to bring backpack Tuesday or Wednesday this week. The will need a pencil/pen, paper and a notebook. Math exams are occurring this week.
3. Thursday Dec. 22 is a Teacher work day
4. On Jan. 9. students are to report to their semester 1 first period class. They will receive their new schedule and then will be dismissed to proceed to their new classes. Please note, adjustments to schedules might occur for some students to allow for new electives, class size balancing and needed interventions.
5. Grade level assemblies will occur on Friday January 13 to address semester 2 expectations and other information.
6. January 23 – 26 will be National Literacy Week. Literacy Night for parents will occur on Thursday January 26. Details will be forth coming.
7. Teague will recognize Black Out Bullying Day on Friday January 27. All students and staff are encouraged to wear black and white.
8. Students return to school on Monday January 9, 2017. Please be reminded all schools will be closed on Monday January 16 for Martin Luther King Day.

Student Supervision
Supervision of students begins at 8:45 am. The front gates open at 8:50 am and students are to proceed to the cafeteria and then 7th and 8th grade students are to go to the gym.  Car riders, walkers and bike riders are not to arrive prior to 8:50 unless they have permission to attend tutoring or have a pass from the teacher with whom they will be meeting. Failure to comply, with the times addressed above, could result in disciplinary action.

No Costumes or Masks: Please be reminded that students are not permitted to wear costumes or masks to school. This includes tomorrow, October 31, 2016 (Halloween).

PTSA NEWS: Teague M.S. PTSA has begun its Fall Fundraiser. The students received information/ order packets on Friday prior to leaving school. The Fundraiser runs from Friday October 28 through Friday November 11. Money/checks are to be collected with the order.  When the student has completed all sales, he/she will turn in all orders to his/her first period teacher no later than November 11. Orders are to be placed in the fundraiser envelop and sealed prior to giving to the first period teacher. PTSA will collect all envelopes from the teachers. Please participate and help us reach our goal.  These funds benefit teachers and student events.  Thank you for your help and support!Teague PTSA.

Student Attendance Update:
 All absences should be followed with a note regarding the reason for the absence. Notes are to be given to the first period teacher. All students must sign in at the front desk if they arrive to school late.  The student will be provided with a pass to class. During each class change, all students are expected to arrive to their following class prior to the tardy bell. Please talk with your child about the importance of arriving to class on time. Please note:unexcused tardies can result in disciplinary action.

Student behavior update:
 Necking (hitting/slapping another person on the back of the neck) continues to be of concern on the Teague Campus. Please be reminded that disruptive, aggressive, harmful and/or inappropriate physical contact with another person is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action. Your support and continued conversation with your child is greatly appreciated.

Dear Teague Family,
All schools will be OPEN as normal, tomorrow, Monday October 10, 2016. Teague has been spared major damage and all power and technology are operational.  My gratitude goes to each staff member, for preparing the school for the storm. A special “thank you” goes to Mr. Johnson and his team for their attention to last minute details that put an additional layer of safety on Teague.
 
With every stormy day comes the need for adjustments. I have given great thought to the following adjustments and am confident that they will meet the needs of staff and families.
 
1. The exam schedule will be changed to accommodate the two days lost last week. In making the change, I considered the need for teachers to have time to complete grades and I considered the students who might be absent on Friday due to previous travel plans. Therefore, the exam schedule is as follows:
 Monday October 10 -  Periods 4 and 7 (this is the original schedule)
 Tuesday October 11 - Periods 2 and 6 (this is a change)
 Wednesday October 12 - NO EXAMS
 Thursday October 13 - Periods 1 and 5 
 Friday October 14 - Period 3

2.  Report Cards will cards go home on Wednesday 10/19 –during 7th period
 
3. It is anticipated that all students will attend school and complete exams on the make-up days, Thursday October 13 and Friday October 14. Should a student be absent on Thursday October 13 and/or Friday October 14, due to travel plans that were made prior to the Hurricane Matthew, please provide the first period teacher with the documentation. All necessary make-up exams will occur the week of October 17. Please note: the grade on the report card, to be received October 19, will not include any exams that were taken after October 14. Therefore, the report card grade may change once the make-up exam is completed. Failure to make-up an exam will result in a zero for the exam grade.

1. Quarter 1 Exams begin on Thursday of this week. We will be on a modified block schedule from Thursday October 6 through Tuesday October 11. We will resume a regular schedule on Wednesday October 12. Please review the schedule attached. 2. Thursday October 13 and Friday October 14 are designated as student nonattendance days. 
 
3. Picture Retake Day has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 18th. 
 
4. The status of Hurricane Matthew is being monitored by the District Office. Necessary updates will be posted on the SCPS Website, Teague Website and via Skyward.
 
5. We have seen an increase of “necking” among the students. Necking is the slapping of one another on the back of the neck. This action is inappropriate, often leads to confrontation and will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action is rendered when “necking” occurs. Thank you, in advanced for talking with your child about the importance of keeping one’s hands to him/herself and for reporting when other do not do so.

  1. A Father’s Hard-Earned Lessons:     Cyberbullying, Depression, and Suicide
John and Kelly Halligan lost their 13-year-old son, Ryan, to suicide in 2003. It was revealed in much greater detail after Ryan’s death that he was ridiculed and humiliated by peers at his middle school and online. 
Mr. Halligan will speak about the things he wishes he would have known about bullying. He will address the latest social media problems facing preteens and teens.  Handouts are provided with recommendations for parents regarding how to talk to kids about technology use.

1. The YMCA After School Program begins tomorrow, Monday 8/29/2016. In order to attend, student must have completed and returned a registration form. Additional forms are available in the front office. Transportation home WILL NOT be available for the first 10 days. Please plan to pick up your child at 6:00 pm
 
2. Open House will occur on Thursday Sept. 15, beginning at 6 pm. We look forward to meeting you.
 
3. Save the Date: John Halligan Presentation – A Father’s Hard Earned Lessons: Cyberbullying, Depression and Suicide. Tuesday September 20, 2016. 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the Cafeteria.
 
4. Student planners are an essential tool for student success. It is expected that each student has a planner. Planners are still available for grade 7 and 8 at a cost of $5.00 per planner. Please see your first period teacher.
 
5. School will be closed on Monday September 5 in honor of Labor Day.
 
6. SAC Meeting – Tuesday September 13, 2016. 7:30 am.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Teague and to the new school year. The Teague staff was excited about the return of students to campus. It was a successful three days and all students quickly adapted to their schedules, classroom locations and learning expectations.  As the year progresses, I will be sending Teague updates to all parents via Skyward Family Access. These updates will include but not be limited to information regarding events, the School Improvement Plan, District initiatives, etc. I also encourage you to visit the Teague and SCPS Websites for additional details and information.

Updates:
1. CODE of CONDUCT: Please review the attached Code of Conduct with your child and return the signed Acknowledgement form to the first period teacher. Students were given form to take home.
2. Skyward Family Access is available for parents. This is a tool that will allow you to monitor student progress in classes and to provide contact access with teachers. For more information on how to register for Skyward Family Access, please contact Guidance.
3. Yearbooks and P.E. uniforms can be ordered through the Teague Website.
4. Picture Day: August 25, 2016
5. Open House: September 15, 2016. 6a:00 pm
6. Student Planners: All grade 6 students received a Student Planner at no cost. All grade 7 and 8 students will purchase a Student Planner for $5.00, from the 1st period teacher.
7. Dividend Coffee: August 23, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Please consider becoming a Teague Dividend and donate your time and talents to support our school.

Dear Teague Families,

Summer break is a busy season on all school campuses. New students are enrolling, new teachers are hired and new administrators are often selected to lead the schools. I am honored to have been selected to serve this community as the Principal of Teague Middle School. I began my journey, in Seminole County Public Schools, at Lake Brantley High School. I served Lake Brantley as an Advanced Placement Chemistry teacher for many years before moving on to become an Assistant Principal at Lake Brantley and then at Crooms Academy of Informational Technology.  In August of 2011, I was appointed as Principal of Greenwood Lakes Middle School. I was blessed to have lead GLMS for the past five years. However, my return to the Lake Brantley Cluster, as the Principal at Teague M.S., has me returning to my roots. I am happy to be home.

Our summer staff is working to have all aspects of the school campus ready for the return of students and teachers. The floors shine, the walls are painted, schedules reviewed and books are stacked. Many of our teachers have been actively participating in professional development opportunities in preparation for quality instruction that includes blended learning, higher level thinking and student engagement.

Teague will continue to focus on the skills identified in the Florida State Standard, use data to inform instruction, consistently implement, with fidelity, newly adopted direct instruction strategies and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. In addition, we will build positive relationships that inspire and encourage all students. Instruction that is focused on standards, guided by data and grounded on positive relationship will assure that our students are “READY to LEARN and READY to SUCCEED”.

Teague cannot be completely successful without the support of our parents, families and community partners. I encourage you to actively participate in PTSA, SAC and all events of the school. I welcome you to contact teachers, guidance and administration with questions, concerns and feedback.

I look forward to meeting you on August 2 during 6th grade schedule pickup (1:00 – 4:00 pm) and August 3 during 7th and 8th grade schedule pickup (9:00 am – 12:00 pm). Also, please mark your calendars for Open House on September 15, 2016 at 6:00 pm.
